I saw Bob Vylan last wednesday at the Engine Rooms in Southampton, the band were incredible. However, i can't say the same for the venue.

When i first arrived i had high hopes for the venue, it seemed to be well planned and thought out but i realised rather quickly that was not the case. The first issue i had noticed was that it was roasting in there although nobody was dancing or packed closely together as at this point the support bands were still playing. Secondly, nobody was allowed to leave the venue, once you were inside you had to stay. I couldn't put my jacket in the car and i did not want to queue for an hour to get it from the cloak room. When Bob Vylan had finished playing the room was of course incredibly hot as was I. I would have liked to get a drink but they had stopped serving when the band ended. Personally that does not make sense as everyone would be hot and dehydrated after moshing at a SOLD OUT gig.

Luckily, Bob Vylan put on an incredible show, I would class it as one of the best i have seen so far. Bobby (the lead singer and guitarist) was an amazing front man. He was involved with the crowd, encouraged us to enjoy ourselves and even began the set with medatation. Something i had never seen done before. Between every song he gave the crowd a few minutes to cool down and spoke to us about himself, the band, upcoming songs or current issues around the world (Palestine and Israel for example).

He even encouraged people to try and get onto the stage to touch "home base" and win a free t-shirt. In my opinion he is one of the best front-men i have seen and i had a great time. The crowd was also incredibly friendly, i dont think i went home with any bruises despite moshing the whole gig. I highly reccomend seeing Bob Vylan live, their music is fantastic and they are clearly very talented. If you get a chance please support them, you will not regret it.
